Curo joins BGV and Sabrina Evans joins us.

Just over a year ago, on the 30th January 2020, Curo Carers was ‘officially’ born. Back then, the 3 Co-Founders: Krishani, Hannah and Matt, had little more than the enthusiasm to positively impact the lives of unpaid/informal carers and a vague idea of how to do it.

After months of interacting with carers to develop our solution, thousands of Slack messages discussing how might we fulfil our mission to support unpaid carers and countless “you’re on mute” video calls, we are ecstatic to announce that we have joined Europe’s leading early-stage tech for good VC - Bethnal Green Ventures as part of their Spring 2021 cohort.

In the words of BGV, they “invest in ambitious Founders using technology to tackle big social and environmental problems that aim to radically improve millions of lives”. At Curo, our belief and intention has always been to use technology to drastically improve the support available for unpaid carers, a group of 13.6 million resilient, talented and — unfortunately — overlooked people.

We are excited to partner with a Fund that aligns so closely with our values and one that ambitiously, compassionately and optimistically provides the finance and expertise needed to provide unpaid carers with the support they need.

2020-present has been a hard for everyone, ourselves included. However, we are grateful to have progressed our solution in such a way that we were able to prove to BGV that we are investable, and also to reach the stage where we can move into the next phase of development.

Alongside the news of BGV, we are excited to announce we have a new team member — Sabrina Evans — who brings her background of mathematics and data science to help propel our product thinking — in particular how we can bring personalised support to carers at scale.

Our aim at Curo is to empower carers to make more informed decisions about caring and looking after their mental health by guiding them through a personalised curriculum so that they feel more in control of their caring responsibilities. Because 3/4 of unpaid carers also work, and 1 in 7 employees in any given workplace will have unpaid caring responsibilities, we sell our services to employers.

After piloting with two employers to validate the impact of our solution and receiving positive results, we now look forward. Over the next 6 months we have exciting plans to build and launch an MVP of our digital carers coach service.

If you are a forward-thinking and ambitious person looking to improve your business or an unpaid carer looking for support, please reach out to Matt (matt@curocarers.com) and / or follow us on LinkedIn for updates.
